2011 Seattle Regional Advocacy Workshop
Come learn and discuss how to effectively advocate for Taiwan. Starting can be as simple as telling the people you meet how good Taiwanese food is! Learn the ABCs of both grassroots advocacy and how to express yourself effectively to Members of Congress. You will also gain knowledge on issues relevant to the Taiwan-U.S.-China triangular relationship, including some of the history and politics that affect current cross-strait relations. Don’t miss the chance to network with other supporters, and discuss how to protect the Taiwanese right to self-determination as laid out in the United Nations Charter on Human Rights.
Normally only available if you attend the popular annual Capitol Hill advocacy conference, sponsored by the FAPA Young Professionals Group, this workshop is now coming to Seattle on May 21. Sign up by Sunday May 15 to reserve one of the limited 50 seats available. Taiwanese-style lunch box included. This workshop is free of charge.
Take this opportunity to make a difference for Taiwan.

Speaker Bio:
Lily Hsueh is a PhD Candidate in environmental economics, politics,
and policy at the University of Washington. Previously, she was a
senior analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Lily was
a founding member of the Taiwan Environmental Action Network (TEAN), a
grassroots environmental organization that bridges environmental
grassroots in Taiwan and throughout the Asia Pacific with
international NGOs. She currently sits on TEAN’s U.S. Board of
Directors. In 2001, Lily co-led a delegation of U.S. based
environmental professionals to Taiwan on the first “toxic” tour of
Taiwan to learn about the environmental and human health problems
associated with the high-tech industry on the island and to exchange
ideas on the development of partnerships for environmentally
sustainable and economically feasible production and community-based
solutions. While a college student at UC Berkeley, Lily co-founded
the Berkeley Students for a Sovereign Taiwan (BST) to advocate for a
democratic and an internationally recognized Taiwan. In 1999, Lily
was a co-organizer of the first annual West Coast Intercollegiate
Taiwanese American Students Association (ITASA) Conference at UC
Berkeley.
