About

Our History

In 2003, the Formosan Association for Public Affairs established an affiliate organization designed for young adults. This organization, whose goals nearly parallel with those of FAPA’s, is known as the Young Professional Group.

Our Mission

  • To promote international recognition for the right of the people of Taiwan to establish an independent and democratic country and to join the international community.
  • To advance the rights and interests of Taiwanese communities throughout the world.
  • To promote peace and security for Taiwan.
  • To provide young proponents of Taiwan with the knowledge and skills necessary for grassroots advocacy on Taiwan’s behalf.

Profile

The Formosan Association for Public Affairs Young Professional Group promotes international recognition of Taiwan’s right to peace, democracy, and self-determination through education and advocacy.

At the moment, Taiwan is facing an international crisis. China, a communist dictatorship, has more than 1600 ballistic missiles aimed at this beautiful island in an effort to intimidate its 23 million citizens, who live in a peaceful and democratic society. The rationale? China falsely insists that Taiwan belongs to “the Mainland.” Through military threat and diplomatic isolation, China seeks to annex its neighbor, forcing the Taiwanese to forsake their identity, their nationality, and their freedom.

The international community, lured by China’s economic opportunity and cowed by its ever-growing military, has warned Taiwan not to “provoke” its belligerent neighbor. Taiwan is barred from memberhood in international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Health Organization—all because of China’s unjust interference. By appeasing China’s communist dictatorship, the world hopes to preserve peace and stability in East Asia.

We believe that lasting peace can be earned in only one way: by supporting democracy and freedom for all people. Sacrificing the rights of 23 million Taiwanese to China’s immoral ambitions is not the answer.

Therefore, we urge you to support a nation who has repeatedly demonstrated its commitment to peace and democracy—concepts that are foreign to the Communist Party in China. We urge you to support our nation, Taiwan.
